2. Young Chefs Lunch presented by Citi at Lona Misa

Viva la veg! Welcome to a rebellious renaissance from root to stem as Good Food Month presents the Young Chefs Lunch presented by Citi at Lona Misa. This event gives cooking’s wild young talent the chance to shine while under the guidance of two of Melbourne’s most esteemed creative culinary partners; the punk rock queen of veg, Shannon Martinez (Smith & Daughters, Smith & Daughters Deli); and industry heavyweight, Ian Curley (French Saloon, Kirk’s Wine Bar).

Ian and Shannon have hand-selected the brightest young chefs from the hottest kitchens in town, asked them to unleash their wildest visions for plant-based dining. This year we welcome:

  • Conner Jeanes from City of Melbourne’s very own hatted favourite, Rockpool Bar & Grill. Conner joined the team in October 2017 and has been a valued asset to the ever since
  • Louise Daily – Future Food System. What a CV! Louise worked with Jock Zonfrillo, then at Oakridge with Matt Stone & Jo Barratt. Now she’s at the City of Melbourne’s self-sustaining, zero waste, productive powerhouse, Future Food System
  • Monika Frkovic; the trained savoury chef with the heart of a pastry chef. Monika made the top 5 for the Josephine Pignolet Young Chef of the Year in 2019 and has been wowing food lovers ever since!
  • Josh Bosen. Melbourne lured Josh away from Icebergs Dining Room and Bar (Sydney) in 2018 and he’s been delighting diners with the best plant-based food in the game ever since!

Say no to FOMO and taste the best of Melbourne! Join Shannon, Ian and their young chef protégés over multiple vegetarian courses served with wine and beer.

4. Hazel | The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery

Tasmania’s one hat restaurant The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery is coming to Hazel! In honour of  Good Food Month, Hazel’s chefs Brianna Smith and Oliver Edwards have invited The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery’s Stephen Peak to collaborate on a one-off dinner that will showcase each chef’s DIY and slow food philosophy. Say no to FOMO! Don’t miss a rare chance to see three young leaders of Australia’s school of DIY and zero-waste cooking as they team up for a special dinner.

Hazel and The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery both offer a mindful DIY approach to food and produce that’s rarely seen at a large CBD restaurant. Each restaurant is known for a similar style of cooking, with food grown on-site or sourced nearby, cheese and charcuterie made in-house, and where nothing is allowed to go to waste.

Over five courses, plus an array of snacks to start, the chefs will showcase a little bit of Victoria, a little bit of Tasmania, and the skills that each of them has mastered as they seek to get closer to slow and nourishing cooking that’s been practised for generations.
